The Springfield Public Schools’ Partners in Education is a program designed to link business and community organizations to the district. Their purpose is to enrich the educational experience and to compliment the educational process of their teachers.
In 2006 Messiah committed itself to Partners in Education. We became partners with Holland Elementary School. Throughout the school year, members of Messiah serve as reading buddies, support school events, and help care for and maintain the school grounds.
In an effort to further support the families and children of the neighborhood, the Holland Book Festival was born. It requires a group of approximately 90 volunteers to collect and sort books, serve meals, and teach skills such as knitting to the students. That goal is for each student to take home 2-3 new or gently used books AND a book for each parent. This program was modeled after a similar successful program ministered by Second Baptist.
